Do I need a developer to install Modilo?
No for a standard Shopify setup. You install Modilo, add the app block in your theme editor, and connect a template to a product or variant with a personalizer code. If your theme is heavily customized, we can help with the first setup so the customer experience feels native.
What kinds of personalized products can I build?
Modilo is built for printable products: posters, cards, labels, mugs, packaging, calendars, stickers, books, apparel artwork, gift products, and multi-page print jobs. Templates can include customer text, uploaded photos, AI images, QR codes, clipart choices, calendars, star maps, moon phases, word clouds, word searches, dropdown options, checkboxes, and conditional designs.
How do I create the personalization template?
You prepare the design once inside Modilo's editor. The editor separates the customer preview from the final print layout, so shoppers see a clean live preview while your production file keeps exact print positions, sizes, layers, fonts, and images. You can reuse templates across products and override them per variant when needed.
Are Modilo PDFs really production-ready?
Yes, Modilo generates production PDFs from the print version of your template, using the physical dimensions, DPI, uploaded assets, text rules, and print boxes you define. As with any web-to-print workflow, the first template should be proofed against your printer's exact requirements for bleed, color profile, paper, finishing, and safe zones before you scale it.
What happens after a Shopify order is placed?
The customer's personalization is saved with the cart item. When the order is created, Modilo processes the personalized line item in the background, renders the PDF, stores the output, and can attach the PDF link back to the Shopify order. That gives your team a production file tied to the exact order item.
Can I use Modilo with my existing print partner?
Yes. Modilo is printer-agnostic: it creates the production file, and you decide where it goes. Use it with an in-house production team, a local print shop, a fulfillment partner, or a custom export flow. If your printer needs a specific naming convention, folder structure, or handoff process, that can be configured or built as a custom workflow.
How does the AI photo generation work?
You define the AI fields and prompt presets in the template. A customer can upload or generate an image, Modilo sends the request to the configured AI provider, stores the result, and places it into the live preview and final PDF. Usage limits and API keys are managed per shop, so you can control cost and availability.
Can customers preview the product before checkout?
Yes. Modilo is designed around a live customer preview on the product page. The preview can show text changes, photo placement, selected options, generated artwork, and conditional elements before the shopper adds the item to cart.
What if I need a custom feature or unusual print workflow?
That's exactly where Modilo is strongest. The app already supports modular personalizers, and custom work can cover new product logic, special artwork generators, custom exports, printer-specific PDF rules, private fulfillment integrations, or branded customer experiences. If the workflow creates a printable output, we can usually design a practical path for it.
